Current Rail Lines – Synopsis
Current Rail Line Synopsis, Sudan
Khartoum is a major hub on Sudan’s main railway network, primarily served by the line connecting it to Port Sudan on the Red Sea via Atbara, carrying most of Sudan’s rail traffic, plus lines extending south to El Obeid and west towards Nyala, though operations have been severely impacted by the ongoing conflict. While some services resumed in late 2024 (like Port Sudan-Atbara), the network faces significant disruptions and neglect, with efforts focused on rehabilitation, as of late 2025
Sudan Railways, operated by the government-owned Sudan Railways Corporation (SRC), has the third-largest rail network in Africa, with close to 6,000 km of single-line track.
